Comprehensive Care + Services in a State-of-the-Art Neuro Rehabilitation Center
The rehabilitation care unit is the foundation of Special Tree’s services and provides highly skilled care and comprehensive rehabilitation for adults and children.
With 24/7 licensed skilled nursing, 24/7 on-site respiratory services and advanced, in-wall respiratory equipment, our experienced team of rehabilitation specialists provide care and treatment for clients with more medically complex needs.
The unit, which features 39-private rooms, is one of only a handful of programs accredited by CARF for subacute nursing. CARF-accredited since 1993, our program has a long-standing history as a center of excellence with highly trained staff to meet your rehabilitation needs.

At Special Tree we work with a variety of consulting physicians, allowing you to enjoy the consistency of care from your primary rehabilitation provider with access to expertise from our team in areas that include specialties such as physical medicine and rehabilitation, psychiatry, vision therapy, and other neurorehabilitation expertise. Your doctor will remain the primary overseer of your rehabilitation, looking out for your medical management, safety, and progress to restore your level of function to the highest degree possible.
Our Physician Services include the expertise of a Physician Assistant who specializes in neurorehabilitation and is on-site regularly to assist with ongoing care of clients.

Respiratory Therapists (RT) are uniquely trained to evaluate and manage the respiratory needs of clients who have impaired lung function and related needs. On site at the NeuroCare Center 24 hours per day, Special Tree Respiratory Therapists work aggressively to help clients regain their freedom by reducing or eliminating their dependence on mechanical ventilation and artificial airways and weaning clients from ventilators and tracheotomies whenever possible.

Rehabilitation Nurses provide highly specialized services for clients dealing with issues relating to traumatic brain, spinal cord, and multiple trauma injuries in addition to traditional nursing care. Always on-site, nurses are an integral component of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, working closely with RSTs, dietary and nutrition services, respiratory specialists, physicians, therapists, case managers, and others to provide for clients’ day-to-day needs.

Rehabilitation Service Technicians (RSTs) help clients with personal care and activities of daily living. Special Tree RSTs complete extensive classroom and hands-on training, and participate in continuing education to maintain skills and stay current with best practices in care, safety, and rehabilitation.

All clients receive a nutrition assessment upon admission to help develop a nutrition care plan based on their individual needs. The nutrition status of each client is monitored through dietary intake, tube feeding intake, fluid intake, weights, laboratory values and input from their support system and Special Tree staff.

Your Special Tree Case Manager is the vital link between you and those involved in your care. Your Case Manager will assist you and your family with scheduling doctor appointments, transportation needs, progress reports, resolving day-to-day problems that may arise, and discharge planning.

Our team of highly trained, caring, and empathic psychologists help individuals adapt to the challenges of the rehabilitation process and provide genuine support to you throughout your recovery journey.
Psychological Services include individual counseling, group therapy, family/couples counseling, neuropsychological assessment, behavioral treatment programs, and psychoeducation programs for staff, clients, and families.

Coping with a brain injury or a spinal cord injury can present unique and complex challenges. Social Workers help identify the social and emotional needs of clients and families, and implement plans to support adjustment to the rehabilitation process.

Working closely with our psychology team, our consulting psychiatrists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illnesses and emotional problems. Because of their medical training, psychiatrists understand the body’s functions and the complex relationship between emotional illness and other medical illnesses. Psychiatrists experienced in neurorehabilitation are available to Special Tree clients for consultation and treatment when necessary.
Specialized Care to Support Recovery
24/7 Respiratory Services
Special Tree Certified Respiratory Therapists (RTs) are an essential part of the interdisciplinary team, and average less than 30 days to safely decannulate patients who meet the criteria, often a critical step in recovery. Highly skilled RTs provide full service care to patients with many levels of respiratory needs. The NeuroCare Center features advanced, in-wall respiratory equipment, freeing up critical floor space to allow for more spacious rooms for daily living and care.
Services include ventilator management and weaning, pulmonary rehabilitation, non-invasive ventilator support (CPAP/BIPAP), airway maintenance, oxygen and vest therapy, cough assist, and respiratory specialty services.
State-of-the-Art Rehabilitation Clinic
Special Tree offers a broad array of treatment services and therapies for patients including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech/Language Pathology, Recreational Therapy, and more. An interdisciplinary rehabilitation team works with each patient and their circle of support to coordinate care and services. Our CARF-accredited program includes access to some of the most advanced technology available to assist in rehabilitation and recovery.
Advanced Wound Care Program
Special Tree’s goal for wound care has always been about prevention and for those wounds that are open, healing them as quickly as possible. Our current model for care builds on years of experience, innovatively incorporating multiple levels of care. In addition to a wound care specialist to manage the program, we've created ways to educate and better equip support staff so everyone is engaged and invested in maintaining skin integrity or knows what to do if the skin is compromised.
